Long Leaf Park

Long Leaf Park is centrally located in New Hanover County and has everything for a fun outing! The park features four Little League baseball fields, tennis courts, a ninja course, an outdoor gym, and more.

The park recently received a facelift with new youth and adult basketball courts, as well as a new ninja course. Read on to know more.

Playgrounds

If you have kids with you or are planning a family getaway, one of the top things to do in Wilmington is the kid-friendly Defy Gravity Trampoline Park. This unique attraction is 23,000 square feet and features wall-to-wall steel-frame trampolines, slacklines, foam pits, and even a dodgeball arena!

Another fun place for the whole family is Poplar Grove Plantation, where you can tour the manor house and learn about life on a coastal plantation, including its enslaved people. Then, head over to the Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden for a chance to see some of the most fascinating carnivorous plants in the world!

If you’re looking for something a little more low-key, check out the Wilmington Sharks, the city’s summer collegiate baseball team. The team plays in the Coastal Plain League which is a great way to experience downtown Wilmington while enjoying some local sports!

Picnic Areas

Whether you want to run, play sports, relax, or picnic, Long Leaf Park has the space and amenities you need. This central New Hanover County park has lighted baseball fields and tennis courts, a ninja fitness obstacle course, an outdoor gym and walking trail, a playground, a splash pad, and plenty of places to sit and enjoy the lush native scenery.

The park also has a smooth, paved recreation path around the perimeter that’s popular with walkers and runners. The path’s length is 1.55 miles, but if you can’t (or don’t want to) make it all the way around, there are lots of easy shortcuts to take.

Trails End Park, 613 Trails End Road, Wilmington. Two reservable picnic shelters, one with tables and one with grills. Shelter #1 seats 45 and can be rented for $25/4 hours (New Hanover County residents) or $50/4 hours (nonresidents). Hours: 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Here is another spot to visit.

Sports Fields

This wooded park has lighted baseball and softball fields, a soccer/football stadium with lights, one lighted tennis court, sand volleyball courts, and full-size lighted basketball courts. It also includes a 10,000-square-foot concrete skatepark, shelters, and a paved trail around a pond.

Located a short drive from downtown Wilmington and UNCW, this centrally located public park has everything you need for a fun outdoor adventure. Six picnic shelters offer party space, a pretty garden area with a pond and gazebo which can be reserved for wedding ceremonies or photos, and a scenic walking path that encircles a 1.55-mile-long pond.

The park is home to the Miracle Field which is equipped with a special rubberized turf playing surface and inlaid bases that allow individuals who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices the freedom to participate in sports. It is operated by Access Wilmington and was funded with a combination of Wilmington and New Hanover County parks bond funds and local Kiwanis Club and Wilmington Believes in Miracle’s fundraising campaign donations.

Whether you’re feeling active or want to relax in a beautiful park, Long Leaf Park is the perfect place for you. With a variety of sports fields and playgrounds, picnic areas, and walking trails, this park has something for everyone! It’s also home to the Kiwanis Miracle Field and the Wilmington Believes in Miracles Playground.

In addition to the playgrounds and sports fields, Long Leaf Park has six picnic shelters available for rent. These shelters can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis and can accommodate up to 45 people with two grills and four tables.
